Hotpot is a Chinese cooking method where various raw ingredients are cooked in a simmering pot at the table, and eaten together. Though usually more favored during the cold season, a hot pot is one of the dishes many Filipinos would crave for despite the hot weather because of its flavorful taste. So, here’s a hotpot place that’s definitely #OnTheGList!

The Beginning of a Pot
Riding the waves of the growing popularity of Chinese cuisine in the country, the first branch of Yush Hotpot opened its doors in Eastwood Citywalk in 2019, serving #TheYushual customers with premium-tasting food.

The owner, who once resided in China, thought of integrating the authentic Chinese flavor, especially its oriental spices, into the Filipino palate.
What’s Hot on the Pot?

One of their best-sellers is the Dry Pot Shrimp. Unlike the typical hotpot, this dish is not cooked in broth. It is stir-fried with vegetables and spiced up with loads of chili peppers, garlic, ginger, and Szechuan (Sichuan) peppers. Fun fact, Szechuan peppers are not spicy but citrusy and give off a unique “numbing” effect to the tongue.

Another fan favorite is the Szechuan Boiled Beef and Fish. These dishes have bold flavors—spicy and pungent—because of the liberal use of garlic and peppers.

Mapo Tofu is another fiery Szechuan classic recipe that can be found almost in every Chinese restaurant around the world. But with Yush, you can expect something even better! It is stir-fried silken tofu with tasty bits of ground pork, covered in a spicy sauce.

If you are craving for oriental seafood, Yush Hotpot also offers Savory Fried Squid that can surely excite your taste buds in just one bite. Their Sweet and Sour Spareribs, which is literally called “sugar and vinegar spareribs” because of its two main ingredients, is also a must-try. It is savory, succulent, and smothered in a scrumptious sauce.

The restaurant is also well-known for its Twice-Cooked Pork, which owes its delicious taste to how it is being cooked—seared in a boiling pot of water with spices then stir-fried along with vegetables afterward. In Chinese cooking, fatty pork is cooked twice to remove or lessen its greasiness.

Yush Hotpot sources its spices and ingredients directly from Szechuan, China to live up to the cuisine’s authentic flavors.
