Musubi-Rush: Hawaiian Snacks for People on the Go

Updated: Jun 12, 2020

Inspired by the Japanese onigiri, Spam Musubi is a slice of grilled marinated Spam, placed either on top of or in between a layer of rice, and wrapped together by nori. This snack has been popular in Hawaii after the World War II, and was commonly sold in convenience stores. Now, its popularity spans across the Pacific Ocean as it reaches the Philippines. And Musubi-Rush comes in handy to satisfy your Hawaiian onigiri cravings.

How Did the Business Start?

In June 2019, the owner of Musubi-Rush tried out her first Spam Musubi in Hawaii. Amazed by its delicious taste and popularity, she thought of bringing the snack to the Philippines by creating her own version of Spam Musubi.

The owner, together with her partner, opened her Musubi business in September 2019. It was a trial and error, selling the dishes to their family and friends first—until words spread about how delicious their Spam Musubi is. They began online as they await the opening of their stall for dine-in customers.
