Captain Chicken: Authentic-Tasting K-Style Fried Chicken

Aside from beautiful faces, scenic views, and unique plotlines, another thing that takes your attention when watching K-Dramas is food. Fried chicken (and beer!) has been the star of many known Korean shows, such as Crash Landing on You, The King: Eternal Monarch, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, and more. When introduced to the Philippines, many fell in love instantly with the dish.

One great place where you can get this flavorsome treat is from Captain Chicken.

The Idea of Authentic Korean Fried Chicken (KFC)

Angela, Tricia, Byron, and Ysa launched Captain Chicken not long ago. It all started when one of the owners missed the taste of authentic Korean Fried Chicken. One afternoon, she gathered her friends who also happen to love K-Drama to watch Crash Landing on You.

That fateful day, they decided to make some Korean Fried chicken using the recipe of an old friend who owns a small chicken joint in Gwangju, South Korea. Days after, the taste of the dish still lingers, and so they dived in and tried to make more flavors. The owners have this burning desire to share their creations to the Filipino market, which gave birth to Captain Chicken.

Korean Chicken #1: What Makes It Special?

While Korean fried chicken has distinct characteristics, there are no bounds when it comes to its flavor. Most chicken joints in Korea offer their own unique take on the well-loved dish.

Captain Chicken’s Manila team, lead by Captain Dak, the shop’s brand hero, receives direct intel from their sources in Korea. This allows the team to bring new and innovative Korean fried chicken flavors that will surely suit the Manileño palate.

The flavor that has a special spot in the owners’ hearts is Yangnyeom. They spent months refining and improving the taste, basing on the feedback on some Manileños. The team worked hard to have this classic Korean flavor in their menu. Korean fried chicken won’t be complete or as authentic-tasting without Yangnyeom anyway.

All the flavors Captain Chicken offers are worth the try, especially Yangnyeom and Soy Garlic. If you have a craving for something different, why not give their Honey Maple and Smokey BBQ a taste?
