The Future of Food: Restaurants, Buffets Impose Social Distancing

Gearing toward the ‘new normal,’ restaurants and other food establishments impose stringent social distancing and precautionary measures to ensure the staff and the customers’ safety as they re-open amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Vikings Luxury Buffet in SM Megamall is one to take action as they require their staff to wear clean uniforms and complete personal protective equipment (PPE), and to observe proper hygiene at all times.

Upon entrance, customers will be instructed to fill out a health declaration form via mobile phones, and undergo a body temperature check.

Customers will order ‘all you can’ using disposable forms instead of lining up to get their own food, which was the common practice in buffets.

Glass shields are installed at all food stations, and tableware is sanitized and wrapped in plastic. Paper bags are also provided for storing face masks while they enjoy their meal.

While restrooms are cleaned every 30 minutes, they also installed automated faucets and foot bars to avoid contact with handles. Sanitizing stations are also placed in visible areas.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the food industry takes small steps in redefining the fine dining experience, trying to survive and thrive amid the new beginning.
