A staple among Filipinos, ube is a dessert made from boiled and mashed purple yam. It can also be used to other desserts such as rice cakes and halo-halo which you can hardly miss because of its distinct vivid color. Aside from its Instagram-worthy facade, ube also has nutritional benefits— high in fiber and vitamins, and an extra-level of antioxidants.
It is gaining popularity nowadays, being incorporated into various culinary innovations to add more flavor and color to the dish. If you’re an ube-lover, here’s a list of ube-flavored foods you should check out.
Ube Cheese Pandesal

Among the new recipes popping out left and right, ube cheese pandesal caught the attention of many Filipinos. It gives our favorite morning bread a flavorful twist— ube-flavored with real ube halaya and cheese filling. This became a hit and paved the way for more flavored pandesal in the market.
Ube Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are sweet, gooey, and creamy spiraled bread with cinnamon fillings and topped with cream cheese. As some people like to put a unique twist on their food, they add ube halaya either to the dough or to the filling, giving it a purple makeover. You can also add grated cheese on top!
Ube Malagkit Turon

As ube becomes a growing trend in the Philippines, Filipinos thought of a fun way to enjoy the purple dessert with their afternoon snacks by wrapping it turon-style. However, there are different variations for this treat— some people add cheese in the filling, others prefer it with the usual bananas, and then there are also those who cook it with kamote or sweet potatoes.
Ube Dalgona Latte

From mixing to non-stop whisking, Ube Dalgona Latte is not completely different from the TikTok-famed Dalgona Coffee. Ube Dalgona Latte has an ube-flavored whipped cream, while the Dalgona Coffee has the whipped coffee on top. A simple treat for non-coffee drinkers and ube-lovers.
Ube Bubble Tea

You read that right. Ube Bubble Tea does exist, but you might have mistaken it sometimes with Taro Milk Tea as they bear the same purple color. Ube is much sweeter and has a deeper shade of purple as compared with Taro, but both are delicious all the same.
